Andrew Meier worked as a stringer in Moscow during the last days of the Soviet Union and then joined Time magazine as a staff correspondent. He wrote two books: Black Earth, on Russia’s first post-Soviet decade and The Lost Spy, a biography of a 1920s American Communist who spied for the Soviet Union.
